A strong westerly flow affects New Zealand bringing gales to many areas.
This watch is for the possibility that westerly gales may become severe in the far south of the South Island, and east of the North Island south of Hastings through to this evening.
This watch is also for the possibility that westerly and northwesterly gales may become severe in the Canterbury High Country, Central Otago and the Queenstown Lakes on Tuesday, into Wednesday morning.
People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case parts of this Watch are upgraded to a full Warning or any further areas are added.

Area: Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago.
Valid: 16 hours from 11:00am Tuesday to 3:00am Wednesday
Forecast: Westerly gales may become severe in exposed places.
Area: The far south of Fiordland, coastal Southland including Stewart Island and coastal Otago front Dunedin southwards
Valid: 14 hours from 8:00am to 10:00pm Monday
Forecast: Westerly gales are expected to affect the area and may become Severe in exposed places.
