Today's weather brought to you by petsmart.nz. It's shaping up as a cracking spring weekend in Invercargill. Friday 9 October is fine apart from possible morning fog, with southerlies developing and a high around 19°C. Saturday and Sunday both look fine and warm at about 21°C, with light winds on Saturday, so it's a great couple of days to get outside before rain arrives next week.
Morning
A still, misty start: 8°C at Invercargill Airport at 6am, with a light northeasterly of just 2 km/h and humidity at 98%, so watch for patches of fog early on. Any fog should lift through the morning to leave a fine day, with southerlies developing as the morning goes on. Sunrise is at 7:03am.
Afternoon
Fine and sunny, with the southerly keeping things fresh. The high reaches around 19°C, which is pleasant for a lunchtime walk or getting the washing out.
Evening and overnight
Some cloud moves in during the evening and the southerlies die out. Sunset is at 8:06pm, with light lingering until about 8:36pm. It turns fine again overnight, dropping to about 8°C, so no frost to worry about.
Saturday 10 October
The pick of the weekend. MetService has Saturday fine with light winds, a high of about 21°C and an overnight low around 9°C, with no frost risk. Sunrise is at 7:01am and sunset at 8:07pm, giving more than 13 hours of daylight. It's ideal for sport, the garden, the beach at Oreti, a walk in Queens Park or a barbecue in the evening. With fine spring weather and a high UV index this time of year, sunscreen and a hat are worth having.
Sunday 11 October
Another good day: mainly fine, with a high of around 21°C and a low near 8°C, again with no frost risk. Expect northerlies turning westerly in the morning, so it may be a little breezier than Saturday, but there's no rain in MetService's forecast for Invercargill. Sunrise is at 7:00am and sunset at 8:08pm. Outdoor plans look good, though a westerly could make it cooler on exposed coastal spots.
Looking ahead
Monday is fine with light winds and the warmest day of the run at about 22°C. The weather turns on Tuesday, with a few showers becoming rain with heavy falls in the afternoon (high 21°C). Wednesday brings rain and southeasterlies and a much cooler high of 14°C, and Thursday is wet with southwesterlies, around 12°C. Make the most of the next four days.
