After a warm Friday that reached 25° at Invercargill Airport, this weekend settles into milder spring weather, with a chance of a shower today and a finer spell on Sunday before a warmer Tuesday and a wetter look later in the week.

Saturday

Invercargill Airport was 12° at 6.30am, feeling like 11° in a westerly of about 17 km/h, with humidity at 87% and the pressure steady at 1008 hPa. It has been dry so far this morning after 2.8mm of rain in the previous 24 hours.

MetService expects a mostly cloudy Saturday with the chance of a shower. The morning is cloudy, the afternoon turns partly cloudy, and cloud increases again in the evening. Southwesterlies die out in the evening. The high is 17° and tonight's low is a mild 10°, with no sign of a sharp drop overnight. Sunrise was at 6.14am and sunset is at 8.47pm.

It is also the final day of the 2026 SBS Bank Tour of Southland. Stage seven is the 14km individual time trial from 10am on Eglinton Street in Winton, starting and finishing there. Stage eight leaves Winton at 1.30pm and covers 80km into Gala Street, Invercargill, with a finish around 3pm. Spectators heading to Winton or lining Gala Street later can expect a cloudy day and the chance of a shower, with the wind easing later.

Sunday

Sunday starts finer. MetService has a fine day, then a few showers developing in the evening. Winds are light at first, with southeasterlies developing in the afternoon. The high is 16° and the overnight low is 9°. Sunrise is at 6.13am and sunset is at 8.49pm. It is a pleasant day for most outdoor plans if you keep a jacket handy for the evening.

Looking ahead to next week
