Heavy rain for Southland and eastern Otago. Severe gales possible for parts of both the North and South Islands.

A low east of Otago directs a southerly flow and rain onto the south of the South Island. The low should move away to the east during Tuesday morning and the wind and rain should ease. Heavy Rain Watches remain in force for Southland and eastern Otago, and a Wind Watch is in force for Otago.

Heavy Rain Watch
Area: Southland
Valid: 10 hours from 8:00pm Monday to 6:00am Tuesday

Valid: 15 hours from 8:00pm Monday to 11:00am Tuesday
Forecast: Period of persistent southerly rain. Rainfall accumulations could approach warning amounts.

Forecast: Westerly winds may approach severe gale at times in exposed places.

Area: North Otago, Dunedin and Clutha
Valid: 10 hours from 6:00am to 4:00pm Tuesday
Forecast: Southwesterly winds may approach severe gale at times in exposed places, especially about the coast.
