All the big guns of New Zealand motorsport as well as some of the most exciting young single seater talents from around the globe will return to Teretonga Park in Invercargill over the weekend of 19-21 January 2018.
The Speedworks Events MSNZ Championship event will showcase the premier classes of New Zealand motorsport in their annual appearance at New Zealand’s southernmost motor race circuit.
Spectator favourites will no doubt be the BNT V8’s and the NZ Super Trucks while Southlanders may well catch a glimpse of some future Formula 1 stars in the Castrol Toyota Racing Series.
Class 1 of the BNT V8’s is currently led by Australian Jason Bargwanna in a Toyota with his team mate, kiwi star Andre Heimgartner, second and Nick Ross of Cambridge in a Nissan third. In Class 2 Invercargill driver Liam MacDonald, the defending champion, leads from Nick Farrier of Pukekohe and Aucklander Chelsea Herbert.
The NZ Super Truck Championship will only begin a week before the Teretonga round but Winton’s Garry Price, a winner at Teretonga last year, will be among the entries again.
The field for the Castrol Toyota Series is still being finalised but again some of the world’s most exciting young up and coming talents will travel to New Zealand for the series. One of the leading lights will be Dutch driver Richard Verschoor. Verschoor took two victories at Teretonga last year and finished third in the series, after being in contention until the final race. Brendon Leitch, fresh from his season in the United States, will attract a huge degree of support as he is a proven championship contender having finished third in the series two years ago.
Southlanders will be prominent in the NZ Formula 1600 Championship with Jordan Michels leading Ethan Anderson in the overall championship at the moment and Noel Atley, Joseph Oliver and Dave McKenzie prominent in their classes.
