Angee Shand’s unwavering passion for the city augurs well for her new role as the Invercargill Licensing Trust’s Sales and Marketing Manager.

With incumbent Chris Ramsay succeeding Greg Mulvey as chief executive from December 31, Shand starts with the Trust on January 22.

“I’m incredibly excited. In all my years in Invercargill working with various organisations, I’ve experienced first-hand the positive impact the Trust has on so many aspects of our community,” she said.

“I come into this with a long-term and very healthy respect for the ILT and the part it plays. To succeed in a position like this you absolutely have to believe in the organisation.

“I saw this as a fantastic opportunity to actually get involved and be part of what the Trust is achieving for our city and its future.”

The position attracted strong interest from throughout New Zealand and Shand relished the challenge of the “robust” recruitment process.

“You want to go up against a strong field and really earn it. This is a role I absolutely wanted when I first applied and that was cemented every step of the way,” she said.

“I believe this is a really exciting time for the Trust with a new CEO at the helm and scope to further expand on what has already been accomplished by such dedicated people.

“I’m looking forward to working with such a talented group and think the stability of their staff – many of which have been recognised for long-service – speaks volumes.”

Before joining Venture Southland in her current position of Tourism Trade and Promotions in 2016, Shand owned a retail business in the CBD for 19 years, has worked as a business mentor and is experienced in marketing and strategic planning. On the sporting front, she’s held an array of governance responsibilities in netball both locally and nationally.

Raised in Central Otago, Shand and husband Bruce Thirkell have proudly called Invercargill home for the past 21 years.

“I just love the place. This is a town that’s making some bold decisions about its future,” she said.

Ramsay said Shand would contribute an extensive skillset to the Trust’s executive team.

“We’re looking forward to the positive impact Angee will undoubtedly have on our organisation. Her passion for the community has been evident throughout her time in Invercargill,” he said.

“Her vast experience in the retail and tourism sectors will be a significant asset in leading the sales and marketing of the Trust. But whilst these aspects are valuable, of equal importance is the great energy and enthusiasm Angee will bring.”
