Southland Physio Headhunted By Japanese Rugby Team

Southland has no shortage of athletes and sports people punching above their weight and making noise internationally.

Those professionals supporting elite athletes rarely get a mention but in Southland we have one of NZ’s best sharing skills and vision internationally. Year on year Sportsmed Southern Physiotherapy’s Karl McDonald joins the ranks of those at the top of their game putting Southland onto the world stage.

Karl has travelled the world for different international teams including the Kiwis rugby league team and Samoa and Highlanders Rugby teams. This year is no different as he has been headhunted to work in Japan for the NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes rugby team.

McDonald is looking forward to a new challenge which will involve three trips to Japan throughout the year in a consultancy role for the Japanese club. Whilst he is passionate about the elite teams he works with here in Southland, he comments it is great to work with other teams, help them reach a point of optimal performance and of course with every new team there is something new to learn, I’m very fortunate. I get to do what I love for a job and get to travel the world doing it.
