In an unexpected turn of events, a police officer found themselves in an unusual predicament at Invercargill’s Oreti beach last night as their patrol car became trapped in the ocean due to the treacherous soft sand.

Footage obtained by 1News depicts a police vehicle almost entirely submerged in water, with waves lapping above the wheels. The incident occurred while the officer was reportedly engaged in official duties in the area.

Mathew Bragg a local resident who captured the incident on video around 2 pm today, expressed surprise at the car’s journey onto the beach. Bragg noted that the location where the police car became stuck is notorious for its soft sand, making rescue operations challenging.

“I’m surprised the car made it as far as it did; the spot they’re in is known for the soft sand,” Bragg commented.

Police anticipate that the stranded police car will eventually be salvaged through towing, although the process may take some time. The task at hand has proven to be a daunting one, as Bragg and his friends have previously attempted, with limited success, to free other vehicles from the same problematic spot.

Describing the predicament further, Bragg stated, “It’s a horrible spot to drive a car; they won’t be able to get a tow truck there, it just doesn’t work.” He speculated that the police car became ensnared in the soft sand around 10 pm the previous night.
