Invercargill brothers, Damon and Brendon Leitch, are looking forward to hitting the track at Manfeild in Feilding this weekend as the final round of the 2015 Toyota Racing Series takes place. The feature race of the weekend is the big one of the series, the New Zealand Grand Prix.

Damon has been climbing up the points standings after a series of gearbox problems early in the campaign in his Post Haste Couriers/Zero Fees car. When free of those problems he has shown his speed and now lies eighth in the star studded international field, just 1 point off seventh, 3 points off sixth and 38 points off fifth place.

He is looking forward to a track where he has gone well previously. “It is good. We get two days testing before this round so we can give the Grand Prix a good crack. I went really good at Manfeild last year. Hopefully I can get the car going well for the biggest race of the championship.”

Younger brother Brendon is also excited to return to the Manawatu circuit. After handling problems with his ITM/Post Haste Couriers car last week at Taupo he is hoping that everything is fixed for the Grand Prix weekend. “Manfeild is very similar to my home circuit at Teretonga. It is very high speed and flowing. I enjoy it and have had good results there. I know the limits and I had pole in Formula Ford there. I can throw everything at the Grand Prix as the championship is out of the equation for me now.”

Testing for this, the fifth and final round, in one of the most competitive years in the series begins with two, thirty minute sessions on Thursday. Three thirty minute sessions follow on Friday with two fifteen minute qualifying sessions on Saturday morning. The first race of the round, the Dan Higgins Memorial Trophy Race over 20 laps takes place at 3.00pm that afternoon. A fifteen lap race on Sunday morning at 10.30am is then followed by the 60th running of the New Zealand Grand Prix over 35 laps of the 3.03 kilometre circuit at 3.40pm on Sunday afternoon.
