JB Hi-Fi is coming to Invercargill Central in early December and has already started its recruitment process in the south.

The retail store is looking for 30 permanent staff as well as temp staff for over the busy periods, and so far the company has had some good candidates apply.

Marketing manager Jon Kirman said being the last tenant on the ground floor of Invercargill Central will give that corner of the new shopping centre a real lift.

JB Hi-Fi met with Invercargill Central management yesterday and are excited to bring the retail chain into the south for the first time.

“It just looks so good in there, and there are some other strong retailers around us as well.”

Aiming for an early December opening, in true JB Hi-Fi style there will be an opening party with live music or a DJ in the New Year – Jon Toogood from Shihad has been known to perform instore up north, but nothing has yet been confirmed for Invercargill.

“We’re always trying to add a bit of personality to retail,” Jon said.

JB Hi-Fi had a bit of a reset last year and decided to move from having just 14 stores nationwide to 38 over the next five years, as part of a massive new growth strategy.

“We’ve opened four stores in the past two months. We’re growing as fast as we can,” he said.

The electronic and home entertainment franchise opened two new airport stores in both Auckland and Christchurch International departure areas, and changed both of its locations in Hamilton and downtown Auckland – to higher growth areas.
