The countdown to the 2018 ICC Surf to City is on, and organisers are encouraging as many Southlanders as possible to get on the start line come Sunday 18th March.
The annual fun run, walk and bike event which includes 12km, 6km and 3km distance options, attracts thousands of Southlanders every year and this year’s edition is set to prove no different.
Sport Southland events coordinator Rachael Norman said there had been great interest already from corporates, families and individuals and she was excited about another fantastic day out.
“We’ve had really good interest from local businesses looking to enter large groups, which is really good to see – the event is ideal for team building and encouraging staff and families to get active and enjoy a fun, community event,” she said.
“It’s also a great family event with a really nice, supportive atmosphere. It’s always so positive to see young kids through to grandparents out there, walking, running or biking, and with three distance options open to anyone – 12km, 6km and 3km – there is something to suit every ability and fitness level.”
Sport Southland Chief Executive Brendon McDermott said the ICC Surf to City was a fantastic example of how physical activity could bring a community together.
“The ICC Surf to City is a really special day out,” he said.
“It has a unique atmosphere, a positive vibe and a welcoming and supportive environment. Everyone is there to have a good time, regardless of how fit (or otherwise) they may be, they are out there, giving it a go with their families, friends or workmates,” he said.
“It’s so heartening to see physical activity bringing the community together, from all walks of life, all ages and backgrounds.”
“Whether this is your first event or your 100th, this is an event you can and will enjoy.”
