Gore District Council has resolved two code of conduct complaints against councillors.
The complaints were dealt with internally and are now closed, ending weeks of community speculation about what had happened behind closed doors.
Mayor Ben Bell said the process worked as designed. "The Code of Conduct exists for good reason, it sets the standard for how elected members treat each other, staff, and the public, and it provides a clear process for when concerns are raised. That process has worked exactly as it should, with the matter being dealt with swiftly through the proper channels."
Bell defended the confidential nature of the process. "This is precisely why the Code of Conduct process is designed to remain private and confidential. When people are given the space to work through issues, you get better outcomes for everyone involved. I am pleased with how elected members have handled this process with professionalism, despite the speculation that surrounded it."
Councillor Mel Cupit said: "I'm pleased the matter has been dealt with and I'm looking forward to continuing to focus on the community and getting on with the work that matters to the people of Gore."
Six councillors issued a joint statement. Councillors Stringer, Fraser, Phillips, Smith, McKenzie and McPhail said: "We are glad this matter has been resolved and are ready to move forward together. Our energy is best directed toward the issues that matter to our community, and that is where our focus now lies."
Councillor Donna Bruce said: "The process is confidential, and I respect that. What I can say is that I'm pleased it has been resolved, and I will continue focusing on my work for the community and the issues that matter to residents."
The council confirmed one separate matter remains under consideration. No further comment will be made while that process continues.
