Part of Queens Park remains closed after yesterday's strong winds caused damage to the area around the Band Rotunda.

Invercargill City Council has shut Coronation Avenue between the Peter Pan statue and the Band Rotunda, as well as the pathway from the Duck Pond Bridge to the Band Rotunda, while crews assess and clear the damage.

Cones and safety tape are in place. The council is asking people to stay out of the affected areas and not cross the barriers.

No timeframe has been given for reopening. The council says it will advise when the areas are safe again.
