Community organisation Nga Kete has been chosen as the major recipient of this year's Rotary Book Sale, securing vital funding to continue its work supporting families and individuals across Southland.

The announcement marks a significant partnership between two organisations committed to strengthening the local community through the region's most popular annual fundraising event.

Nga Kete CEO Tracey Wright-Tawha said the organisation was thrilled with the selection.

"We are incredibly honoured to be chosen as the major recipient for this year's Rotary Book Sale. This support will help us continue our work and extend our reach to those who need it most."

Rotary Club of Invercargill Charitable Trust Book Sale Chairperson Richard Russell said the partnership reflected Rotary's commitment to community-driven impact.

"Nga Kete's work in the community aligns strongly with Rotary's values of service and impact. We are proud to support their efforts through this year's event. The Book Sale is truly by the community, for the community."

The 2026 event will mark the 45th Rotary Book Sale in the club's 102-year history, and the third consecutive year hosted at the Scottish Hall on Esk Street.

Over the decades, the Rotary Club has donated more than $1 million to organisations across Southland, supporting a wide range of community initiatives.

Funds raised through this year's book sale will directly contribute to Nga Kete's programmes and services, enabling the organisation to strengthen its community support work.

The Rotary Book Sale will run from 28-30 May 2026 at the Scottish Hall, with thousands of books available for purchase.

Community members wanting to donate books can drop them off at several service stations across Invercargill, including Waikiwi Motors on North Road, BP North Road, Waitomo Avenal on Dee Street, Z Gladstone at the corner of Dee and Lewis Streets, Challenge Newfield Autos on Tweed Street, Southern Service Station on Elles Road, Northern Auto Services on the corner of Sydney and St Andrews Streets, Lorneville Motors Challenge, Wallacetown Motors on Dalry Street, and Riverton Automotive Centre on Palmerston Street.

Organisers are encouraging community members to attend what has become one of the region's most anticipated annual events.

The 2026 book sale hours are:

Thursday 28th May 8am to 7pm
Friday 29th May 8am to 7pm
Saturday 30th May 9am to 5pm
