Each year Alasdair MacKenzie flies home to Scotland from Southland for the Scottish Champs in July and World Pipe Band Champs held in Glasgow just last weekend there.

Bit of a dream trip, was great to win the Scottish Champs but the Worlds is the one everyone wants and it’s great to take the title again, my Scottish band is called Inveraray and District.. It’s our second time winning the “spike”.. We won it for the first in 2017.

I’ve got a week back home with the parents in the highlands then looking forward to heading back to Invers.. Gonna be an exciting 6 months or so with us hosting the Nz National Pipe Band Champs in Invercargill March 2020.

A total of 195 pipe bands from all over the world were competing over the 2 days.

The first ever World Pipe Band Championships were held at Murrayfield in Edinburgh in 1947. The event was first held in Glasgow in 1948 and has been staged in the city continuously since 1986.

Inveraray and District Pipe Band were crowned World Pipe Band Champions 2019 in front of thousands of spectators at Glasgow Green.

They saw off their nearest rivals, last year’s winners, Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band from Northern Ireland.

St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band from Dublin came in third place.

The win is Inveraray’s second victory at the event in three years.

About 8,000 pipers and drummers, making up 195 bands, took part in the annual spectacle in the centre of Glasgow.
