The countdown to the forth Te Anau Tennis Invitational is underway as eight of the country’s top male tennis players confirm their names on the draw.
With a prize purse in excess of $20,000 the invitational is rated third on the New Zealand tennis calendar behind the annual ASB Classics held in Auckland and draws in the very best of New Zealand male tennis talent.
Spectators will not only see the best in of New Zealand’s male tennis in action, they also get to see the regions tennis age group reps and Southland’s own Emilia Price partner with Junior Wimbledon Champion Wesley Whitehouse to take on New Zealand female number one Marina Erakovic and former Wimbledon Doubles Quarter Finalist, Lan Bale in an exhibition match.
Te Anau Tennis Club President Greg Sheppard attributes the success of the invitational to the overwhelming support from sponsors and the Te Anau community.
“We have great facilities and an abundance of enthusiasm to see growth in the sport in Southland.
Proceeds from the invitational go directly towards coaching up and coming southern tennis talent.
Just Five years ago there were six members of the Te Anau Tennis Club, today there are over 100 members maintaining the strong southern interclub completion.”
Te Anau Invitational organisers are urging those who want to witness this top tennis spectacle to act now to secure accommodation for 28 and 29 December.
