Southland Sharks have signed Johnny Helu and Romaro Gill for the upcoming 2023 Sal’s NBL campaign. Helu returns to Southland after a gap year, citing the relationships he formed during his previous stint with the team. He brings with him the experience of playing under Sharks’ Head Coach Guy Molloy.

Meanwhile, Gill, who finished last season as the League-leader in blocks and the second-highest field goal percentage player, returns to protect the rims at ILT Stadium Southland. He is excited to play under new Sharks’ Head Coach Guy Molloy and be back with the community that made him feel welcome last year. Gill is the first of up to three import or restricted players for the NBL franchise, with two more expected to be announced over the next week.

The Sharks open their season against the Manawatu Jets on April 7.
