The Southland Junior Adventure Race for Year 7-10s took place last week over two days with 210 Southland Sec Schools and Primary teams competing from across Southland.
The Adventure race consists of 3 disciplines - kayaking /orienteering and mountain biking with teams of four navigating a set course at Oreti Sands . Teams looked like they enjoyed themselves as they adventured out on the course finding the markers and navigating the course to the finish line.Times ranged to completing the course from 1 hour.44.54 to 4 hours 36.59.
This event has grown massively from its introduction several years ago and credit must go to the Southland Multi Sport and Triathlon club for organising and running it .This is a huge undertaking to organise especially with the health and safety logistics.Everyone at the end of the race is offered a free cooked sausage on bread and bottle of water which brings a smile to most faces.
You can see the sense of acheivement and enjoyment the participants gain from taking part.
