The man who was shot in Invercargill is out of surgery and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Police are in the initial stages of their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident on Kelvin Street yesterday morning.

The offender has not yet been located.

Part of the Police inquiries includes interviewing various witnesses today.

Police ask anyone who saw or has information about what happened, who has not already spoken to Police, to make contact with the Southern District Command Centre on (03) 471 5002.

We want to reiterate that there is not thought to be any risk to public safety.

Invercargill Police have today continued their inquiries into yesterday’s shooting.

Police are in the process of formally speaking with the victim, who is recovering in hospital.

We continue to ask that anyone who can help Police with information on what happened in the Kelvin Street area yesterday morning, get in touch.

Police would particularly like to hear from anyone driving on Kelvin Street, near the intersection with Earnslaw Street, around 9am Saturday.

There is not thought to be any risk to public safety at this time.
