State Highway 99 near Wallacetown is closed tonight after a two-vehicle crash around 5.20pm left one person trapped in their vehicle.
Fire crews from Kingswell and Wallacetown attended the scene, where they had to extricate the person from the wreckage. The road is blocked in both directions near Price Road.
Initial indicators are that there are serious injuries. The Serious Crash Unit is on site, these investigations typically take several hours, meaning the highway is unlikely to reopen quickly.
Detours are in place for light vehicles. Westbound traffic is directed via Ryal Bush-Wallacetown Road, Branxholme-Makarewa Road, Lochiel-Branxholme Road, Lochiel Bridge Road and Oporo Flat Road. Eastbound traffic should follow the same route in reverse. The detour is not suitable for heavy vehicles.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, allow additional time for travel, and follow directions from emergency services at the scene.
