- Free buses will run from Invercargill, Mataura, and Gore for easy access to Bluff
- Over 50 activities are planned across seven interactive and themed zones for youth
- Organisers aim to make the festival inclusive, supportive, and packed with positive energy
Rangatahi Zone 2025 is set to return to Bluff this September, offering two days of fun, learning, and connection for young people aged 10 to 18. Taking place on 25 and 26 September, this free annual festival will include free return transport from Invercargill, Mataura, and Gore.
Organisers expect strong attendance this year, especially with Kidzone not taking place in Invercargill. The event promises a welcoming environment and more than 50 activities spread across seven unique zones: Action & Sports, Kai, Beauty & Career, Arts & Crafts, Wellbeing, Tech, and Te Ao Māori.

“Transport shouldn’t be a barrier,” says Project Lead Sumaria Beaton. “These free buses are about equity and inclusion. We want every rangatahi to feel welcome, supported, and excited from the moment they step on board.”
Each zone offers something different, from action-packed challenges and hands-on workshops to quiet creative spaces. Activities include smash-it rooms, video gaming, haircut stations, kai-making classes, flax weaving, and more. The goal is to inspire rangatahi to explore their interests, build confidence, and have fun in a safe and supportive space.
“This is a free event for all rangatahi across Murihiku Southland,” say organisers. “It’s about uplifting our youth, giving them new experiences, and showing them ways to care for their emotions — all wrapped in fun and adventure.”
The festival is supported by more than 150 volunteers, alongside sponsors and the Tuurama Trust, which founded Rangatahi Zone in 2021. Their vision remains focused on creating events that bring healing, joy, and opportunities for connection among young people.
