A suspicious fire was started in the priest residence at St Mary’s Church on Tyne Street, where he lived on the church grounds. Father Christopher O’Neill made a lucky escape

Police cordoned the residence off was cordoned off this morning while detectives fire investigators examined the fire scene.

What we know:

  • The fire was contained to the the parish offices and priest’s residence
  • Father O’Neill moves to Milton in a few weeks
  • Upon arrival the first crew of firefighters arrived requested immediate assistance
  • Firefighters were called to building on the corner Tyne and Nith streets about 1am
  • Police are asking for any information from witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity on Tyne St around 1am
