Two people were seriously injured in a crash on the Riverton Wallacetown Highway on Tuesday afternoon. One remains in critical care at Dunedin Hospital.
The collision, between a ute and an SUV, happened around 5:20pm on July 21. Southland Police are investigating and want to hear from anyone who saw it.
Dashcam footage is a particular priority. Police are asking drivers who travelled the Riverton Wallacetown Highway between 5pm and 5:40pm that day to check their cameras — even footage from before or after the crash could help establish what happened.
Anyone with information can contact Police on 105, online or by phone. Quote file number 260721/3854.
Plan ahead for a closure of State Highway 99 between Price Road and Wallacetown, from 9:30am to 11:30am on Friday 24 July. This is to allow Police investigations to take place. Follow the provided detour and allow additional time for travel through the area during this time. For eastbound travel use Oporo Flat Rd, Lochiel Bridge Rd, SH6 and back onto SH99. Reverse for westbound travel.
