Invercargill Superbowl has a new owner and Angela Strang plans to turn the aging facility into a modern retro entertainment centre for all ages.

The Former NZ Landlord of the Year (2015) is used to renovating old houses as one of her business ventures, but this latest commercial project to give the Superbowl a massive facelift is another level altogether.

Plans are underway to turn the old upstairs bar area into a fun space to include activities such as table tennis, and to make it more appealing for children’s birthdays.

A teenage hangout area will feature playstation/nintendo, with karaoke and maybe even some old fashioned video game machines, to keep in with the whole retro vibe of the 1980s space.

“There will be some really cool things to do,” she said.

The renovation will hopefully begin in November when it will be closed for 18 days for the installation of new bowling machines from the United States – installed by specialists from Australia.

The console and keyboards are being replaced with digital touchscreen technology, “so you can see your score alongside your mates,” as well as order food and drinks to customise the games. The broken down boiler will be replaced by heat pumps.

The new bowling shoes have already arrived but Angela still has a bit of work to do before she’s ready to get stuck into the project.

“I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, and really wanted to do it up.  It’s a good project for me.”

Angela has fond memories of going to Timaru every school holidays as a child, and when her nana would take her ten pin bowling.

“It was a really exciting thing to do.”

Now she’s started taking her four and two-year-olds to Superbowl in Invercargill, and since life got a bit easier with more time on her hands, Angela knew this was the right time to buy the business.

“It’s such a cool thing for Invercargill.  There is a lot more things we can do with it.” Book your lane now.
