The victim was 36-year-old Timothy Peter Herrick of Invercargill. Authorities extended their sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing as police continue to gather further details.
The crash, which occurred around 4 pm near Glen Nevis Station Road, involved a tour bus and another vehicle. A total of 20 people were injured, with two in critical condition and two others suffering serious injuries.
Emergency services mounted a large-scale response to the incident. Hato Hone St John dispatched 11 ambulances and a major incident support team to the scene. Seven helicopters, including six from Helicopters Otago, worked to transport the injured to hospitals.
Fire and Emergency NZ also attended with four fire engines. Firefighters had to cut two people out of the tour bus and another from one of the other vehicles involved.
Police have launched an investigation into the crash to determine its cause, and enquiries are ongoing.
