Local MP Sarah Dowie says she hopes local teachers will apply to the Teacher-led Innovation Fund to get support to trial their ideas on innovative teaching practices.

“I want to see our local teachers supported to try new things in the classroom to raise achievement, this fund is doing just that,” Sarah Dowie said.

“We know it’s the quality of teaching that has the biggest impact for students at school.  So giving teachers the opportunity to try out new ideas and investigate new practices could lead to some great results in the classroom.

“Since the fund started, successful projects have been put into practice and shared across schools.

“The Teacher-led Innovation Fund is part of National’s $359 million Investing in Educational Success initiative.  The initiative also includes Communities of Learning, such as our own Lower Mataura Valley Community of Schools, Invercargill City Community of Learning and Invercargill Faith Based Community of Learning.

“To get different results you need to do different things, and the National-led Government has been doing that,” Sarah Dowie said.

Applications close on 16 March next year with successful proposals to start in July.  More information is available at:http://www.education.govt.nz/ministry-of-education/specific-initiatives/investing-in-educational-success/teacher-led-innovation-fund/
