The team at Mitre 10 MEGA Invercargill don’t do things by halves, and for their 20th birthday celebration they have a massive giveaway happening.

General Manager Tracy Key and the team started the ball rolling during February, when a customer who spent $20 or more got entry form into the draw for a main prize being $20,000 of products, which one customer will win on March 8.

Twenty lucky customers will be drawn on March 3 and invited to come into the store on the Saturday, where they will pull out a unique code out of a bucket - one of which will unlock the 20-foot storage container full of goodies.
UPDATE:

Tracy said there was a mixture of products inside - everything from outdoor living, paint, tools, gardening products and so much more.

And the best thing is nobody goes home empty handed - the remaining 19 finalists will also get to choose a wheelbarrow full of prizes as a thank you for participating.

“At our 10th Birthday we had a garden shed full of prizes, for our 15th birthday we had a car and this year we’re going big and bold.”

Alongside the birthday celebrations on Saturday March 8 will be the completed upgrade of the instore playground, which has been revamped and is going to look fabulous, Tracy said.

The face of Mitre 10’s ‘Easy As ‘campaign Stan Scott will be in store for the promotion on Saturday March 8 and Sunday March 9 and the celebrations roll over right until its official birthday on March 10.

Whilst at the store on Thursday and Friday, Stan is going to show customers how to build a playhouse, which is then going to be donated to St John Invercargill as a fundraiser.

Over the weekend Stan will be doing demonstrations around common DIY jobs and how to build a few fabulous things for your place.

There’s been some great memories of the Mitre 10 MEGA site over the years, and the site at 12 Elles Road has an interesting history.

Originally, the building was used as a school. In the early 2000s it was repurposed and became a Woolworths supermarket.

Then, in a major redevelopment project, Mitre 10 MEGA Invercargill acquired the Woolworths site.

As part of the 2004/5 expansion, the supermarket building was gutted and extensively redeveloped—adding an extra 2,853 m² of new retail space to create a total retail area of 8,118 m², making it one of Southland’s largest outlets.

The new Mitre 10 MEGA store was successfully completed and officially opened by Mayor Tim Shadbolt in March 2005. Initially employing 100 team, the store now employs 160 team members and up to 180 team members during peak trading periods.

Having been part of the team at Mitre 10 MEGA Invercargill for all those 20 years, Tracy recalls “back in the day the MEGA concept was very new to our team and our customers.  The store seemed so big and there were times that we duplicated products around the store to fill it up.  Now the store is jammed packed with a significant product range of over 45,000 product lines and plenty more available online."

Tracy and her team are incredibly proud to bring world class home improvement retailing in Southland.
