The Ministry of Health has indicated that the coroner and other agencies are investigating more recent deaths following vaccination, after an autopsy report confirmed Myocarditis in a 26-year-old Dunedin man.

Social media has been rife for weeks with information regarding Rory Nairn’s death from Myocarditis – including by his fiancé, who believes more warnings should’ve been in place about the risks.

Last week pathologist Noelyn Hung officially recorded her findings, that the rare (but increasingly more common) side effect of the vaccine contributed to his death.

MoH sent out a letter in August advising health professionals to be aware of the signs of Myocarditis and Pericarditis after administering the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.

They released another one last week – this time beefing up the urgency of the issue, calling it a “rare but very serious” adverse event relating to the vaccine.

Medsafe has reported 277 cases of Myocarditis/Pericarditis in its latest report up to and including November 20.

Leading immunologists have stressed that the risk from the vaccine was much lower than the risks associated with Covid-19, but there have been no cases of the virus south of Christchurch since 2020.

It has been reported that Myocarditis can occur far more frequently and also more severely with Covid-19, but for many people already with heart problems and living in the Covid-free South, the vaccine poses a higher risk to them.

MoH said in its recent letter as an overall rate that only 3/100,000 vaccinations have been reported with the rare side effect,  but anecdotal evidence from health professionals have indicated much greater numbers.

Several months ago a 12-year-old Dunedin boy was admitted to ICU for several days following his first vaccination, with Myocarditis.   It is understood he is now recovering.

What’s On Invers has not followed up this case out of respect for the family, and to give the family privacy.

The American Heart Association has published a new study which has found that 98% of all cases of Myocarditis among children are due to the mRNA Covid-19 vaccinations.
