A 37-year-old man will appear in Dunedin District Court today charged with murder after a person was found dead at an Andersons Bay property on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to the Somerville Street address around 5:50pm where they discovered the deceased person.

"A scene examination will be completed at the property today," Detective Senior Sergeant Dylan Ross said.

Cordons remain around the property and police are asking the public to avoid the area. A visible police presence will continue in the neighbourhood over the coming days.

Police have confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the death.

The charging represents a swift resolution to the investigation, with the arrest occurring within hours of the initial callout to emergency services.
