Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a person at a property in Andersons Bay, Dunedin, on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were called to a Somerville Street address at about 5.50pm after reports of an incident at the property. When officers arrived, they discovered one person deceased at the scene.
A person was taken into custody at the address as Police began their initial enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Detective Inspector Shona Low said a scene guard had been established at the property while investigators carried out a detailed examination.
Police confirmed there was not believed to be any ongoing risk to the public.
Cordons remain in place around the Somerville Street area as specialist staff continue their work at the scene. Investigators are now focused on establishing exactly what occurred leading up to the incident.
Police have not yet released further details about the deceased person or the individual taken into custody.
The homicide investigation remains in its early stages and enquiries are continuing.
