Phew. Just when I thought that we’d covered most things going on in Invers I come across some more.

Here’s a few to be going on with.

As we’ve reported, work has started on the Hawthorndale Care Village.

An entrance way is being created on Tay Street while this old beauty, the Hawthorndale Scout Hall has been bowled as part of the project.

The village, expected to open in early 2025, is an aged care facility inspired by the world-leading Dutch dementia village, De Hogeweyk. It will follow a social rather than a traditional institutional model of care, allowing residents to live as normal a life as possible, exercising choice over their daily lives.

What else is there…… Oh yes. Still plenty of activity at the Invercargill Business Park. Wonder what’s going to go on this site?

Just over the way on Arena Ave, this building is nearing completion. It will be home to a chiropractic centre. They’re also looking for someone to set up a Robert Harris Cafe in there. Been a while since we’ve had a Robert Harris Cafe isn’t it?

On to housing. There’s plenty of activity keeping the developers, builders, plumbers, electricians busy.

Rockdale Mews on what was the Rockdale Park School site up  by Big Willy Rustler’s is filling up very quickly. There’ll be 49 homes on this site when it’s all completed.

Work on this project on McQuarrie St is also galloping along.

Work has started on what is going to be Invers latest suburb. As previously reported on whatsoninvers, Te Puāwai. will feature a variety of housing, green spaces, a retail hub, childcare facility, medical centre and residential aged care village.

The developers say Te Puāwai (means “to bloom, to come to fruition, to come out of a flower”) on the Rockdale Rd Tramway Rd corner, will be a gamechanger they believe can alleviate pressure on the local housing crisis. They add, in the years to come it will be a vibrant and exciting addition to Invercargill’s housing market.

And look at the big development at the Murihiku Marae in the background.
