Finalists for the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Awards 2018 have just been released and the Gore District Council is proud to announce that Main Street, Gore, is in the running for the Best Street Award.
The Best Street Award recognises and celebrates a street in New Zealand that clearly stands out for its beauty, cleanliness, plantings and sense of community pride.
Main Street was nominated by the GoRetail Group for its visual aesthetic, the dedication of the Council’s gardening team, and initiatives such as the Suffrage 125 planter boxes.
Gore District Council events and promotions coordinator Emma Carle said the Council is thrilled to be a finalist for the award.
“It’s a real testament to our gardening team’s dedication and creativity. Their collaboration with the Gore Historical Society on the Suffrage 125 planter boxes is a prime example of that.
“The attractiveness of the hanging baskets is one of the first things mentioned by visitors to Gore.”
GoRetail spokesman Ivan van de Water said a beautiful Main Street was essential to encouraging people to shop locally.
“As retailers it has never been more important to bring shoppers through our front door in a challenging economic environment. An attractive main street is key to that.”
The winners will be announced at the Beautiful Awards Gala Dinner, in Auckland, on Friday 26 October.
