The Labour Party has selected Dr Liz Craig to contest the Invercargill electorate at the 2020 general election.
“It’s a huge honour to be selected again to contest the Invercargill electorate for Labour” said Dr Liz Craig
“Over the past 2 ½ years, it’s been a privilege to serve as a Labour List MP based here in Invercargill”.
“During that time Invercargill has benefited significantly from many of the Government’s initiatives. Things like the Winter Energy Payment, Low Cost Doctors’ Visits for Community Service Card Holders, and Provincial Growth Fund investments in our airport and the inner-city re-development”.
“Yet I’m also aware there’s so much more to do, if we’re to restore our run-down health system, rebuild our state houses and clean up our waterways, all issues we inherited after nine long years of neglect by the previous Government”.
“To do this Jacinda Ardern and our Labour-led Government are going to need another term. I’m keen to be part of this, so I can build on the work I’ve already begun” said Dr Liz Craig.
The last time Labour held the Invercargillelectorate seat was when Mark Peck was the MP for Invercargill from 1993 to 2005.
Background
Dr Liz Craig has been a Labour List MP based in Invercargill since the 2017 election.
Before entering Parliament, Liz was public health doctor, who had worked for over a decade monitoring the health of New Zealand’s children and young people.
Her entry into politics stemmed from a belief that every child should have the best possible start in life, and that the Government had an active role to play in ensuring all New Zealanders could access the services they needed.
