Legendary New Zealand broadcaster Keith Quinn has been confirmed as guest speaker for the 2016/2017 ILT Southland Sports Awards.
The renowned rugby commentator will speak during the awards, which celebrate the achievements of Southland’s athletes, teams, coaches, administrators, officials and those who have dedicated years of their lives to sport, being held on June 9 at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill.
Sport Southland chief executive Brendon McDermott said the awards present a chance for the sporting community to come together, celebrate, acknowledge and recognise those who have achieved exceptional results.
The awards also celebrate those just beginning on their sporting pathway – with the Mike Piper Trophy for Integrity, Commitment and Excellence awarded to an Academy Southland athlete who exemplifies all three qualities – as well as those who have contributed many years of the lives to sport, with the Sport Southland Services to Sport Awards.
McDermott said the evening promised a night of both celebration and entertainment, with LA Social set to entertain the crowd, and Quinn confirmed as guest speaker.
“Many of us have grown up listening to the commentaries of Keith Quinn, and I’m sure he will have many colourful stories to share,” he said.
Nominations for the 2016/17 ILT Southland Sports Awards are now open and close on Wednesday, April 26.
