Another ‘pop-up job shop’ is underway in Invercargill, for those needing employment advice.

The Great South Job Search 2020 runs until Saturday at the Invercargill Public Library, and on Thursday in Gore.

People will have the opportunity to connect with employment support, get help with curriculum vitae’s, hear the rundown on recruitment agencies and find out about the hidden job market.

Great South general manager for business services, Ben Lewis, said given the evolving impacts of COVID-19, the Great South Job Search was extremely timely and would provide much-needed support to Southland’s labour force.

Great South CEO Graham Budd, opens Job Search.

“This event builds on previous Pop Up Job Shop events to provide those seeking employment with the advice, support and networks needed to learn more about, and connect with, the range of employment opportunities still available across the region.”

Mr Lewis said the highest numbers of vacancies being advertised at present were in the primary sector and associated businesses, and the event would help connect people with the information that they needed.

The initiative was being supported by a wide range of job search and career specialists, industry career representatives, and community organisations.

Along with coordinating the event, Great South staff will also be available in Invercargill to discuss the Skills Placement Programme which supports migrants connecting with employment opportunities in the region.

They will also talk about the work associated with Southland Youth Futures, Great South’s career exploration programme that builds pathways between education and employment.

The expo runs from 10am to 4pm until Friday, then 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
