Sarah Dowie, MP for Invercargill, congratulates Invercargill Middle School for winning Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the prestigious Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards last night.
“This award is a testament to Invercargill Middle School’s hard work and commitment to education innovation. The school should take pride in proving itself one of the country’s top educators. Well done,” Ms Dowie says.
“The Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in New Zealand schools. Invercargill Middle School’s award is a huge accomplishment as they demonstrated excellence in education to a panel of top education experts.”
This year’s finalists include a broad range of educators from early learning services, a kōhanga reo, primary, intermediate, and secondary schools from right across the country.
“I have visited Invercargill Middle School and I have always been thoroughly impressed with the commitment the school places on education and the achievement of all its students,” Ms Dowie says.
“Invercargill Middle School is a pioneer in innovative and effective teaching practices. The school is highly commended for its ground-breaking oral language programme which has lifted communication and overall achievement for all students.
“I would also like to congratulate principal Stan Tiatia and his team. The outstanding leadership underpins the school’s success and passion for education is second to none.”
Winners receive a financial award and a professional development opportunity. The winners’ stories will also be shared across the sector so that others can benefit from their experiences.
