Invercargill City Council Final Election Results Declared

Invercargill City Council’s final election results have confirmed the Mayor of Invercargill is Mayor Nobby Clark with 7357 votes.

Polls for the local government elections closed at midday Saturday.

Invercargill City Council Deputy Electoral Officer Michael Morris said the counting of 594 special votes meant the final two positions would be filled by sitting Councillor Peter Kett and newcomer Barry Stewart.

The new Council will take office from Saturday 15 October, and will be officially sworn in at a ceremony on Thursday 20 October.

Morris said he was happy with the way the Vote Murihiku collaboration ensured the wider Southland community were kept both informed and enabled to vote.

“It was great to be able to share this with Southland District, Gore District and Environment Southland council partners. We all put in a lot of work in our respective areas to present a cohesive campaign and I think everyone has benefitted from that.”
