The pace is being set for contenders aspiring to take a seat on the Invercargill City Council. It’s very encouraging to see the list of names growing by the week, including Alex Crackett, Toni Biddle standing for ICC and Tom Conroy standing for mayor.
The latest contender that we know about is Neil Thomas, co-owner of The Lollie Shop.

Here is his media release.
Invercargill businessman Neil Thomas is standing for the Invercargill City Council. He is co-owner/operator of The Lollie Shop in Cambridge Place with his wife Karen. Born and bred in Invercargill he loves the city so much he has turned down several transfers to northern centres.
Neil has been in many community roles over the years including 3 years on the Invercargill Safer City subcommittee of the City Council, the inaugural Chairperson of the Invercargill Community Patrol Charitable Trust, 5 years as a patrol member of the Community Patrol, 3 years as Race Manager of Cycling Southland Under 17 and two terms on the Committee of the Invercargill Harness Racing Club.
While wanting to see the Museum shift to the CBD, his first aim is to get the i-site shifted to the CBD. This would bring visitors (including bus passengers) into the CBD. This would do more for the CBD than any new upgrades.
Open Council, Roading, Law and Order are other issues he has strong views on.
