There’s plenty to look forward to starting next few weeks with the start of the Southland District Council Holiday Programme.

Staff at Venture Southland, who coordinate the programme on behalf of Southland District Council, are counting down to this summer’s holiday programme which will be road tripping around the region from Monday 7th to Monday 28th of January, 2019.

Venture Southland Major Events Coordinator Claire Blau said the programme was a highlight of the events calendar for children in rural communities.

“With a varied range of activities, games, arts, sports and crafts the holiday programme is a wonderful day out for all involved,” Blau said.

This year the programme has confirmed that more buses will be running across the district to help more children enjoy the holiday programme.

“We’re wanting to try and make the programme as accessible as possible and this means offering more transport options for those wishing to attend,” she said.

The added bus routes are likely to include pickups from Wallacetown, Thornbury, Gorge Road, Woodlands, Edendale, Tuatapere, Nightcaps, Waikaia, Garston and Athol, but will be dependent on bookings.

Blau encouraged parents and caregivers to register their children for the programme and transport, if required, as soon as possible.

“There are only a limited number of spaces available at each location so to avoid disappointment we recommend you confirm your spots early,” Blau said.

The programme costs $8 per child, per day and runs from 10am to 3pm with locations including Winton, Riverton, Otautau, Wyndham, Stewart Island, Te Anau, Lumsden and Riversdale.

Registration for the programme can be completed online at SDCholidayprogramme.co.nz
