Heavy rain warnings have been issued for Southland and Clutha, with expectations of 60 to 90 mm of rain and peak rainfall rates of 10 to 25 mm/h. Thunderstorms are also possible and the largest accumulations are likely to occur about and north of a line from Balclutha to Nightcaps.

This heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, resulting in surface flooding and slips. In addition, driving conditions may be hazardous. The Southern Police advise people in Otago and Southland and Clutha  Districts to avoid any unnecessary travel and if possible, stay indoors.

In the event of an emergency, contact the Police on 111. If it is after the fact, contact the Police on 105. It is important to take caution while travelling and stay updated with the latest weather warnings.
