Hawthorndale Care Village has appointed Lynley Irvine as its new General Manager, marking a confident next step as the organisation strengthens its day-to-day operations and long-term direction.
Since opening, the Southland-based village has introduced a pioneering aged care model inspired by the Dutch De Hogeweyk approach. Designed to support independence within a safe and familiar setting, the model allows residents to live as normally as possible while receiving the care they need. With these foundations now firmly in place, the focus is shifting towards consistency, stability and operational excellence across the Village.
Lynley joins at a time of positive momentum. Her role will centre on strengthening operational practice, supporting staff and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality aged care that places people at the centre of every decision.
She brings extensive experience in aged care management, including leadership in dementia care, operational oversight and team development. Her leadership style is grounded in compassionate practice, clear values and a strong belief in enabling people to perform at their best.
“I am honoured to step into this role at such an exciting time for Hawthorndale Care Village,” said Lynley Irvine. “There is a strong foundation already in place, and I am looking forward to building on that work. My focus is on supporting our teams and residents as we continue to strengthen our operations and ensure Hawthorndale remains a place of care that feels supportive and truly like home.”
Board Chair Mike Wyeth said Lynley’s appointment reflects the organisation’s natural progression as it moves from establishment to consolidation.
“Lynley’s experience and values led leadership to align strongly with the direction of Hawthorndale Care Village,” said Mike Wyeth, Chair of the Board. “Following a deliberate period of establishment, this is a natural moment to embed operational excellence and long-term stability. Lynley brings a calm, people-first approach that will support our teams and ensure the Village continues to evolve with care and purpose.”
Hawthorndale Care Village has quickly become a valued part of the Southland community. It offers residential, dementia and hospital-level care alongside independent living options and community amenities, creating an environment where residents can live with dignity, connection and support.
