Southland is starting to become known more and more as the place for speed, and soon it will be the Hardpark Takeover crew’s turn for a big weekend event.
Organised by Faded Media, the event first started back in October 2021 at the Otepuni location, it then moved to the Ascot Park raceway in April 2022 and now this year it moves out to Teretonga.
Held over Anzac Day weekend starting on Saturday April 22, the event starts with the return of the HPTO Show and Shine, but this time there will also be Drift demonstrations.
Organiser Troyden Findlay said they hope the event will be bigger and better than the last one, “we’re trying to bring that car culture back to everyone in Invercargill,” he said.
An extra added bonus this year will be the Freestyle FMX motorcycle riders from Auckland, who will be performing tricks on Saturday, and will definitely attract a strong crowd.
Sunday April 23 is track day which is a first for this event, and with full access to the race track, drivers can get out and cruise with their mates, “or even line up side by side and race in our drop flag sessions,” Troyden said.
Entries are now open and with three big events rolled into one weekend, this new HPTO Fest will plenty of family friendly entertainment, and also feature five hours of cruising around Teretonga.
Troyden has spent the past six years working behind the scenes to make the HPTO Fest a success, and fortunately the crowds have got bigger every year.
“It’s like holding a party and waiting to see who turns up, which is always a big scary, but now we’re moving to the second day we want it to be worth their money.”
