Saturday’s Diamonds Day harness race meeting at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill was a great success.

On track Sand Wave won the Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes Final in front of a vocal group of owners from around the country while Aardie’s Express took the honours in the final of the Nevele R Stud/Macca Lodge Southern Oaks Final for Canadian owner Mike Tanev. Don’t Stop Dreaming prevailed in the $60,000 Group 2 Diamond Creek Farm Classic for 2-year-olds and Idealism secured the Regent Car Court Southern Cups Final, a poignant victory after part-owner Peter Carnie passed away on the morning of the race.

Othlie Cook of Auckland was the lucky winner of a $4200 Diamond Ring, one of the day’s big promotions. The prize, donated by Coats & Schuck Jewellers and the Invercargill Harness Racing Club, was won in a lucky draw of all bets of $5 or more placed by ladies on course.

Meanwhile Margaret Shanks joined the other daily winners who will go in a draw for a trip to Mooloolaba later in the year courtesy of the Peninsular Beachfront Resort in Mooloolaba with travel courtesy of Beach Road Holiday Park, Invercargill.

Harness racing action will return to Ascot Park Raceway this Saturday when the Invercargill Harness Racing Club’s annual ILT Race Day takes place with plenty of vouchers which can be used at various ILT establishments available to be won by on course patrons.

Admission to the course on the day will be free.
