Laing Shield

Nightcaps has teed off the new year with yet another defence of the Laing Shield.

The team had a 5-1 win over Invercargill. Individual results were: Brett Dobbie beat Paul Adams 3/1, Stu Dobbie beat John Hughs 4/2, Ross Mangels beat Ross Mclean 4/3, Alan Roberts beat Peter McCullum 8/6, Peter Booth beat Brian Scully 3/1 and Jay Petherick lost to Bob Moore 2 down.

Nightcaps’ next challenge will be from Queens Park this month.

Pennants

The MLT Handicap Pennants competition will have its first round on Sunday, with rounds at Wyndham, Tokanui and Nightcaps. There are 30 teams taking part over three divisions this year and no doubt it will be highly competitive.

The Vice Presidents Pennants will start in March and has seven teams this year.

Upcoming events

Don’t forget Golf Southland has events coming up for golfers and those new to the game.

Entries are still open for the Southland Charity Tournament, being played at Queens Park on Wednesday 12 February. Email [email protected] to secure your place today.

Also, for those wanting to give golf a go, free Get Into Golf lessons tee off on Monday night (10 February) at Donovan Park, from 5.30pm. These lessons are taken by local professionals, so make the most of them and get some tips to get your game off to the best possible start.
