Retrobowl Invercargill is all geared up for the school holidays with its new modernised entertainment centre.
Owner Angela Caughey purchased the business in May 2024 and spent three weeks in May 2025 refurbishing the complex with new bowling machines and scoring systems from the USA.
The 12-lane bowling alley was reduced to eight, which freed up space for an arcade area and karaoke room, but the ball returns and seating area was retained in keeping with the retro theme of the original facility.
“The renovation has turned out better than we envisioned.”
Angela has fond memories of going to Timaru every school holidays as a child, where her nana would take her ten pin bowling.
Since re-opening mid-year the business has been busy from the get go, particularly Friday nights that have been booked out - corporate groups have been using the space for team bonding and socialising, with its fully licensed cafe and bar.
Saturdays were also very busy, with only a few gaps in the bookings, and for the next two weeks families were encouraged to book ahead online at least 24 hours in advance so they don’t miss out.
Keep an eye out for new car racing and superbike games coming at the end of October, to complement the 31 arcade games.
And now was also a good time to book ahead the Christmas party retrobowl.co.nz/functions-events
There is great food available onsite, including burgers, and a function room upstairs for hire as the perfect spot for birthday parties. Follow the Retrobowl Facebook page and Instagram.
