After 24 years of service, Nigel Skelt has resigned from his role as General Manager of ILT Stadium Southland, effective immediately. Skelt cited medical grounds and personal reasons for his decision to retire from the Stadium, which is a world-class, multi-purpose venue that hosts a range of sporting and cultural events in Invercargill, New Zealand.
The Board of ILT Stadium Southland accepted Skelt’s resignation with gratitude and appreciation for his significant contributions to the venue and the city. Skelt was involved in setting the early vision of the Stadium and bringing successful national and international events to the venue, such as the New Zealand’s first indoor cycling Velodrome. He also navigated the Stadium through challenging times, such as the roof collapse of 2010 and the Covid pandemic.
ILT Stadium Southland Board Chair Alan Dennis said, “Nigel has been a key figure in the development and management of ILT Stadium Southland. He has shown great leadership and dedication to the Stadium and its community. We thank him for his 24 years of service and wish him well in his retirement.”
Skelt is in his second-term as a Invercargill City Councillor, where he is leading the new museum development.
