BLAKIE, Davina Gail: (RN,PGDip,BN)
26 September 1959 - 20 April 2026. It is with profound sadness that we inform you of Davina’s passing. Davina was the eldest daughter of David* and Glennys* Hansen, cherished sister and sister-in-law of Deborah and Steve* Blomfield, Bronwyn Hansen, Angela and Barrie Hosgood, and Matthew Hansen. Special aunty of Brodie and Zac Hosgood. Beloved wife of Michael for 25 years and beloved “mum” (servant) of her fur-children. Davina loved many and was loved, and she enjoyed a laugh (with a quick wit and way with words.) Davina was a dedicated nurse, tender hearted, empathetic who could relate to all generations. Her knowledge and skills she willingly shared through her role tutoring Student Nurses. Enjoyed naturing in the garden and being creative and pottering with projects. Davina was a valuable and respected member of our family and will be deeply missed. Davina remained positive and hopeful during her battle with cancer. We thank the staff at Southland and Dunedin Hospitals and Hospice Southland for their care and compassion for Davina. In accordance with Davina’s wishes, a private graveside service has been held. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice or a charity of your choice. Favourite saying: “Let’s be part of the solution, not part of the problem”. I wish you sweet sleep, my sister dear. Although there’s so much that you’ve left bare I hate that you had to endure such pain On my mind, your saddened eyes have left a stain.
I want to know what crossed your mind Unspoken words you’ve left behind Undone things we’ll never do No sharing thoughts you never knew.
A peace has fallen upon your head, A taste of sorrow we have been fed, It really is like a hole in our lives, One swiftly dug but carved out by knives.
But I have hope that those sleeping will rise, The Bible says that God will open their eyes. No suffering, sickness, yes not even pain, Those who did good, eternal life they’ll gain.
So… sleep on my sister, sleep tight For now with you the sky is night. But after night will come daybreak Therefore I will wait hoping to see you awake.
Deborah, Bronwyn, Angela and Matthew.
