Now Storm-chasing in the midst of the clouds.
A brave man to the end
Loved husband and best friend of Anne. Father to his children Jessie and (the late) Rosemary Raine; and Alix. Stepfather to Hannah, Eve, Eleanor, Edwina and Madeleine Collins – he will be sadly missed by them. Loved son of Dr John Wellesley Evan Raine and Eleanor Raine (nee Luke) of Wellington. Much loved youngest brother of Dr Rosalind Anderson, Dr John Raine, Professor Anthony Raine (dec). My thanks and love to the wonderful vascular team and nurses under Ms Jo Krysa at Dunedin Hospital who looked after Chris so tenderly and with absolute compassion and love for many years. To the nurses on the surgical ward at Kew Hospital Invercargill who cared for Chris willingly and gently. To our dear friends and carers who came in tirelessly each day to ‘sort him out’ (and Anne!) Marlee Van Uden, Bridgette Batt O’ Keeffe, Ilse Todd and Wendy McNaughton. The team at Otautau Medical centre, your surprise at his longevity need be no more, he was always happy with the great care you took of him and managing to keep him alive so much longer! Dave Loudon who supported us both in Chris’s end days, and now myself during this walk in the valley of tears. Chris will have many who remember him, his friends and colleagues from the Met Service, Wellington Free Ambulance, St John Ambulance, Waitaki District Council and also West Coast Regional Council. And to the many of you who knew Chris and enjoyed his company and whom I don’t know; be assured he will be in heaven peering through the clouds at you all and hopefully sending you fine weather because he will have gathered the storm clouds to himself. Chris was cremated in Dunedin on Monday, June 20, 2022. He is now at his much loved cottage in Thornbury and is awaiting a date for a blessing on the weather lawn and placement of his ashes. He will be sadly missed by Anne – his friend and soulmate. If anyone wishes to splurge out in his memory but rather than flowers he would prefer donations to Furever Homes, Invercargill.

ROBERTS, Thomas Andrew (Tom):
