Police can now name the woman who was killed in a crash in Alexandra on Friday 19 January 2018 around 12:50pm.
The crash between a Mini and a Nissan 4X4 happened at the intersection of Clutha Road and Ventry Road, just before 12:50pm that day.
Police apologise for earlier reporting that she was 86-years-old.
She was 85-year-old Valerie May McGrath of Alexandra.
Our sympathies are extended to Ms McGrath’s family and friends.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Police Update: Police can confirm an 86-year-old woman was the victim in a fatal crash in Alexandra this afternoon.
The crash between a Mini and a Nissan 4X4 happened at the intersection of Clutha Road and Ventry Road, just before 12:50pm.
The woman was transported to Dunstan Hospital, but died there from her injuries.
Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, said Alexandra Police are forming a good picture of what happened thanks to witnesses, and are satisfied neither speed nor alcohol were involved.
Police and Victim Support are working alongside both families.
The driver of the second car was uninjured, but understandably shaken.

One person has died following a two-vehicle crash in Alexandra.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Ventry St and Clutha St at 12.48pm.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.
