In a little over a month, popular local raw milk seller Farm Fresh South will be blowing out the candles on two years in business, and owners Logan and Melissa Johnson couldn’t be happier.“We’ve started planning celebrations now to thank those who have helped and joined us on this journey,” Logan says.
“We want everyone to be able to taste and experience real, fresh, raw milk. Most people don’t know what they’re missing out on.”
Two years ago Farm Fresh South began selling raw milk through their on-farm vending machine in Woodlands. Now, they deliver weekly to Invercargill and Dunedin homes, with plans in the pipeline to extend their coverage.
“We started milking 20 cows and have increased to 30 with plans in place to increase again in the coming months.”
Their fresh, raw milk has been so popular that they’ve been selling out regularly over the last few months.
“We underestimated the number of new customers recently and have been playing catch up to try and meet demand. We’ve had to impose limits on how many litres people can buy.
“Now the supply is picking up again, those limits are lifted, and we’re determined to make sure there’s enough milk for all the milk lovers in the south,” Logan says.
Aside from offering customers an alternative to supermarket pasteurised milk, Logan and Melissa have been doing their part for the environment.
“We are now saving at least 1,000 plastic milk bottles from being used every week by reusing glass milk bottles. We estimate that we have saved over 100,000 since opening almost two years ago.”
